Inspired by his world travels, 35 Summers (Rocky Mountain Featherbed & Anatomica) Director Kinji Teramoto began his journey with Der Sammler in 2006, continuing to impress with his vast knowledge and consistent use of vintage materials. A constant collector of rare fabrics further explains the German name Sammler (meaning “Collector” in English).
The 1972 USN Utility Jacket from Der Sammler is a standout offering & based on original examples of US Navy Issue Utility Jackets. This particular style of Jacket was introduced post-war, where military & naval attire started using synthetic fibres to help with the mass production of clothing as well as speed manufacturing up.
This iteration from Der Sammler uses a vintage, dead-stock poplin, a rare and hard-to-find fabric. The poplin is made up of 85% cotton & 15% nylon, while the jacket features a button placket and concealed zip, inherited from the A-2 and N-1 Deck Jackets that preceded it, adding a layer of protection. The Utility Jacket comes with a heavy-duty 50s brass zipper with cotton placket taping and authentic tonal buttons that fasten the cotton flap layer. Two slash pockets and authentic military repro ID label completes the look.
